# Воднi маси

 Визначення **Воднi маси** — великi об’єми води, що вiдрiзняються температурою i солонiстю.

Розрізняють екваторіальні, тропічні, помірні і полярні водні маси. Назва водних мас та їхні властивості зумовлені особливостями клімату тієї ділянки земної кулі, де вони утворилися.

Екваторіальні водні маси дуже теплі ($$+25$$ ... $$+29^{\circ}С$$). Теплими також є і тропічні водні маси, температура яких становить у середньому $$+19^{\circ}С$$. Вони солоніші за екваторіальні. Температурні умови і солоність помірних водних мас мінливіші. Температура коливається від $$+10^{\circ}С$$ до $$+15^{\circ}С$$. У Південній півкулі вона знижується навіть до $$0^{\circ}С$$. Солоність помірних водних мас нижча за екваторіальні та тропічні.

Полярні водні маси, що формуються на крайній півночі і на крайньому півдні Світового океану, найхолодніші. Їхня температура в окремих місцях дорівнює $$-1.8 ^{\circ}С$$, а солоність води нижча, ніж середня солоність Світового океану.
